Kastarti who was a kephale of Kanina in 1868 was the first member of the Kastarti family mentioned in historical documents. In the 18th century Kastarti family was one of the less powerful noble families in Kormenia, whose power and influence was far less than those of aristocratic families near the king, as the Almedian, Olitaris and Kangaphas. The Kastarti were first mentioned in 1794. According to Parsian sources, the family originated from Kastrat in north Kormenia. According to Choniates, they originate from western Cispatria.
