- Danae was the daughter of Acrisius. Fearing a prophesy that her son would kill him, Acrisius locked Danae away. Danae became impregnated by the god Zeus (via a shower of gold) and gave birth to Perseus When Acrisius found out about Perseus, he cast Danae and her son the into the sea in a wooden chest. But the chest floated and the mother and child washed ashore on the island of Seriphos, where they were taken in by the fisherman Diktys, who raised the boy to manhood. Danae became impregnated by the god Zeus (via a shower of gold) and gave birth to Perseus When Acrisius found out about Perseus, he cast Danae and her son the into the sea in a wooden chest. But the chest floated and the mother and child washed ashore on the island of Seriphos, where they were taken in by the fisherman Diktys, who raised the boy to manhood. One day, many years later, Polydektes, the king of the island, came and desired to marry Danae. Danae was freed from her unwilling marital commitment when Perseus brought the head of Medusa and turned Polydektes to stone. The story of Danae and Perseus was told in The StoryTeller: Greek Myths' story of "Perseus and the Gorgon".
