  • The Sivadian Navy does not generally have ornate change of command ceremonies for its warship commanders. A commanding officer is generally opts make remarks to his crew, say fairwells, and have his flag taken down quietly. The vessel will then be left in the charge of the First Lieutenant or Executive Officer until the new captain or commanding officer arrives. In order to assume command, the officer in question must "read himself in" by announcing his or her orders to the crew. Rather than muster all hands, this is generally done by loudspeaker or viewer from the bridge. The "All hands" sound is keyed over the intercom, and the orders are read. The wording of an order to take command of a ship is generally something like: The new captain then informs the First Lieutenant that he assumes command. If the officer is entitled to a personal flag or command pennant, it will be broken at this time. It is common for the officer to make remarks regarding his or her plans and expectations for the crew, and expressing his gratitude to his predecessor.
