| - Ray Erickson (April 15, 1918 - November 28, 2002) was a NASCAR driver from Chicago, IL. He competed in twelve Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning three top-tens. Erickson made his debut in NASCAR's inaugural season, competing in four 1949 events in route to a fantastic 7th place finish in points. Erickson made a quick splash in the series, barely losing to Jack White at Hamburg Speedway in Erickson's series debut. He followed that up with a 3rd place finish at Martinsville, a midpack 15th at Pittsburgh and a solid 7th at North Wilkesboro. Unforunately, Erickson struggled after that, only returning to the sport for two 1950 events. Two DNFs hampered Erickson's run that year, finishing 24th (of twenty-five) at Charlotte and 18th at Langhorne. Erickson's next three races all came during the 1951 season, when Erickson again found underwhelming results. He finished no better than 17th at Charlotte that year, nearly matching that with a 19th place run at Canfield but falling off to 32nd at Hillsboro. Erickson stepped it back down to a two-race schedule in 1952, though his results only worsened. Early mechanical problems set him back in both races, leaving him 29th at Langhorne and 30th (last) at Dayton. Erickson's final career race came during the 1953 season, when he competed at Lakewood Speedway in Atlanta for the first time. Erickson, though, still couldn't put the results together, finishing 21st in the twenty-six car field.
