- But the ability to do some sewing is still useful. It allows you to do quick repairs, like sewing on a button or adjusting the hem on slacks. Even if you cannot sew very well, a small amount of ability will allow you to do minor repairs or make costumes.
- Sewing: The practiced skill with the needle and thread to mend clothing,do minor alterations, and layout, cut and sew simple patterns. Thisis not a tailoring ability, but can become tailoring if the player selectsthis skill twice.
- Until recently, all sewing was done by hand, but that all changed with the invention of the sewing machine along with the industrialisation of the rest of the modern world. Because of this, the durability and production capability of sewing spread as quickly as the subsequent laziness, enabling engineers to utilise sewing for many new applications, most of which remain completely ignored by the greater public. Despite the versatility of this innovation, sewing has dwindled in popularity in modern times, oft discarded in favour of faster techniques such as buckling, velcroing, zipping, taping, or even gluing component pieces together.
- Sewing is the player's level of skill with needles such as the Bronze Needle. It increases as you craft more items from the Tailor Recipes. With every level you gain at this skill, your power with needles increases, and you gain access to even more powerful needles such as the Fashionista's Needle. This skill is gained through becoming a Fledgling Tailor.
- Sewing is an essential skill when building a fursuit. Many people try to work around it, describing it as cumbersome and boring. However searching for alternatives might be more time- and money-consuming than just sitting down and getting it done.
- The act of sewing attached pieces of fabric, or items to fabric, by means of a length of thread pulled through the layers by a needle. The tailor Elim Garak found it to be relaxing. (DS9: "Afterimage") In the Gamma Quadrant, a group of colonists led by Alixus learned how to sew their own garments when they were unable to use their technology. (DS9: "Paradise") In 2370, Garak referred to repairing isolinear subprocessors as "no more difficult than sewing on a button." (DS9: "Cardassians")
- Sewing is one of the Production skills in HKO. There are various crafting-guides for sewing which can be learned in order to create dye, accessories and clothing, but also components (materials) for Forging and Carpentry.
- Sewing is an activity in FreeTime that builds Arts and Crafts enthusiasm, as well as a new talent badge. It is the only crafting activity in The Sims 2 that Sims do while seated. Sims can sew many craftables, including teddy bears, quilts, and customized clothing. When telling a Sim to sew an item, the player can give it a name and description, or can accept the default. Sewing is done on the Mechanical Stitching Machine by Antique Artifacts, which costs §1250. It is an old-fashioned foot-treadle machine, which appears to resemble a classic Singer foot-treadle sewing machine.

Sims can build the Sewing Talent Badge by sewing many projects. Having high Creativity will make Sims earn this badge faster. Sims may roll a want to sew a project, especially if they have made progress in Sewing. Fulfilling this want may trigger a want to buy a sewing machine, even if the project was sewn at home. All sewn objects appear in the sewer's inventory when completed, even if the Sim was only making a single object. This means that Sims will take items sewn on the Arts and Crafts hobby lot home with them, even though a Sim's inventory cannot be accessed on hobby lots. Sewing anything other than a potholder is time-consuming and can be hard on motives, but can be profitable. While all sewn objects except outfits and customized outfits can fail, sewing is the only craft in which failed objects are not sold at a loss, though they will sell for less than successfully made objects. Higher badge levels reduce the chance of failure, and may reduce the time needed to make some objects. If The Sims 2: Seasons is installed, sewing in Fall appears to reduce the time needed to make objects.
