The British Empire is the largest empire in the world, and the largest empire that the world has ever seen. Although London remains the political centre of the empire, and important decisions that concern the entire empire, e.g. decisions about trade agreements and war, are decided upon by the monarch of Great Britain and Ireland (who is also monarch of all other countries in the empire) together with his or her government, the empire countries have a large degree of self-rule. The current monarch is Queen Elizabeth II (who also is Empress of India), and it is still her right and duty to appoint prime ministers all over the empire, and she can veto parliament decisions.
