That first season, an independent (non-league) hockey team was formed called the Miami Valley Bruins. They played a number of exhibition games. At the end of the season the Bruins entered the 1950-51 United States National Senior Championship. Hobart Arena was the host to some semi-final and final games. The next season (1951-52) the Bruins became the Troy Bruins of the International Hockey League (1945-2001). They played from 1951 through 1959. As a concert venue the arena can seat up to 5,282; and when used for trade shows the arena can accommodate 15725 sq. ft. of space. The arena contains four permanent concession stands, four dressing rooms and a referee's room, seven box-office windows, and a ceiling height of only 34 ft.. It is home to the Miami Valley Silverbacks indoor football team and the Troy Bruins of the United Junior Hockey League.
