  • Tom Dempsey III is a character portrayed by Mark Pellegrino in the ABC crime series Castle. Dempsey III, although the physical spitting image of his grandfather, doesn't, apparently, have murder in his DNA, and quickly alibis out in the case of Stan Banks. Dempsey was earlier approached by Stan under a pseudonym, claiming to be a biographer researching his late grandfather's good traits. Wanting to redeem the family name, Dempsey provided Stan with all the information he needed to know. But some time after, when Dempsey attended the funeral of Betsy Sinclair, who used to sing at his grandfather's Pennybaker Club, he spotted Stan talking with Jerry Maddox, who took off at the sight of him. It was then that Dempsey discovered Stan's true identity, as he signed his real name in the guest book, and realized that he was just another low-life treasure hunter searching for the Blue Butterfly necklace his grandfather used to own. Dempsey later read about Stan's death in the newspaper, compelling him to break into Stan's apartment to discover what he had found. But he was shortly arrested by detectives Beckett and Esposito. Though they suspected he murdered Stan for the Blue Butterfly, it was later proven that he was innocent.
