- Thranduil is the epitome of the secretive and dangerous Wood-elves. His kingdom of Mirkwood has been under siege for many centuries by all manner of enemy, and his patience has long since run out. For this reason he is considered to be no friend of Dwarves or Men. Countless years in the dark forests have made Thranduil utterly undetectable when he does not wish to be seen, and no archer in all of Middle-earth can approach him in deadly accuracy. His insular nature prevented him from attending the Council of Elrond, but he sent his son Legolas in his place. At the end of the Third Age, Thranduil reaped his revenge upon the minions of Mordor by forcing their army back to Dol Guldur, where Galadriel shattered the tower once and for all.
- Recruit the Elvenking of and the father of Legolas. He is the only hero from Lothlórien that can mount (though he doesn't mount a horse). In version 4.2 Thranduil received a new model based on Lee Pace's performance in "The Hobbit" movies. Thranduil's uniqueness in the faction is that he's got a special stance system which gives him different weapons and also different effects in every stance. His abilities are centered around Mirkwood unit support and defense.

- Thranduil (N."Vigorous spring") was a Sindar elf who was the son of Oropher and Nemireth, the brother of Arafel, the husband of Arhendhiril, and the father of Legolas, Lindariel, and Faelwen. He remained Lord of Caras-e-Dawarwaith, or Aradhrynd in the hollowed limestone buttress on the North-Eastern end of Mirkwood, until sometime in the fourth age. This fortress was hard against the Taurduin river and crossed by a single bridge. He was noted for his generally isolationist policies until softened by his friendships forged during the Battle of the Five Armies.
- At the end of the First Age, Thranduil was among many of the Grey Elves that stayed in Lindon, and before the building of the Barad-dûr in SA 1000 they travelled eastward. Thranduil and his father, Oropher, eventually ended up in Greenwood the Great, where Silvan Elves of Nandor descent lived. Oropher was taken by them as lord and founded the Woodland Realm with the capital at Amon Lanc. A few thousand Grey Elves who had come with him were soon merged with the Silvan Elves, adopting their language and taking names of Silvan form and style.
- Some people who have read The Hobbit think badly of him for imprisoning Thorin's party in his dungeons, as well as a stated love of treasure. This disregards the fact that the latter wasn't enough to prevent him from lending aid to the Lake-men on the way to Erebor, and that the former was partly caused by Thorin and the dwarves' rude behavior (in which they showed less respect to him than they did to the Goblin King). Not only that, but the Elven fondness for wine featured in the book is used as grounds for pegging Thranduil as an alcoholic, and therefore physically abusive.
