| - Skarloey is a red narrow gauge tank engine, and a character in Thomas the Tank Engine Tales. He is engine number 1 on the narrow gauge railway. Skarloey's best friend is Rheneas.
- Skarloey is old, wise, faithful, friendly, brave and courageous, although he will never stand any nonsense from engines, coaches or freight cars whatsoever. However, in his young days, he used to be very badly-behaved and full of his own ideas, but learnt sense after being fitted with a new pair of wheels and when his brother Rheneas saved him from an accident with a mudslide. Since then, he has been a much dediciated worker and very wise engine. In recent seasons however, he has acted a little immature and somewhat cowardly.

He was the first engine to arrive on the newly developed Skarloey Railway in May 1865, arriving by steam ship at Kirk Ronan Harbour, before being delivered to Crovan's Gate by Neil. His young antics proved bothersome but he soon matured when he received his cab and trailing wheels.
