Zalera is an optional Esper found in the Barheim Passage, his existence being foreshadowed by NPCs mentioning hearing a woman's screams from deep inside the tunnel. He fights by summoning Dead Bones to attack and using status attacks that hit depending on the levels of the party members. If the player cannot defeat Zalera within five minutes they are teleported out of the room and must begin the battle over. Zalera's license costs 25 LP, and he requires one Mist Charge to summon.

Orribile creatura dal corpo scheletrico, era stato creato con lo scopo di fungere da giudice delle anime, ma è stato contaminato dal contatto con anime impure ed è stato esiliato. Data la sua natura angelica, questa creatura possiede sia il potere Sacro che quello Oscuro, e rappresenta il segno zodiacale dei Gemelli. Apparso per la prima volta come boss in Final Fantasy Tactics, Zalera è in seguito ricomparso in molti titoli della compilation Ivalice Alliance, in cui ha svolto il ruolo di invocazione. Come per tutti gli altri Esper ricorrenti nella serie, la sua apparizione più famosa risale a Final Fantasy XII, in cui era un'invocazione opzionale.
