Offensively, the Nightmare type performs well, weakening Fighting and Dark types, which have notorious Attack stats and, in terms of Fighting, are commonly used. Power over the Psychic type is an advantage, as Psychic Pokémon have been popular since the first generation, but have poor defence capabilities. Not only that, this type also weakens the Space type, which only has one other weakness.

abstract
| - Offensively, the Nightmare type performs well, weakening Fighting and Dark types, which have notorious Attack stats and, in terms of Fighting, are commonly used. Power over the Psychic type is an advantage, as Psychic Pokémon have been popular since the first generation, but have poor defence capabilities. Not only that, this type also weakens the Space type, which only has one other weakness. Only two types resist the Nightmare type - Light and Magic. This is another one of Nightmare's advantages, since the Light type has a small amount of Pokémon that specialise in its type, and Magic type Pokémon, including movesets, are non-existant at this moment in time. The Nightmare type doesn't affect itself or Shadow types, two rare types that have only a handful, or one Pokémon available.
