In that year, Kai Winn Adami, under coercion from Dukat (disguised as a Bajoran farmer, Anjohl Tennan), requested the book from the archives, intending to use it to free the Pah-wraiths. When opened, the book was devoid of text, which was only revealed when blood was spattered across its surface. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil") The restriction on reading the Kosst Amojan was enforced by the book itself. When Dukat attempted to decipher the text, the book released a plume of energy that blinded him for several days. (DS9: "When It Rains...")

  • The book, when opened, was devoid of writing until blood was spilled on its surface. (DS9 episode: "The Changing Face of Evil") Winn Adami and Skrain Dukat later brought the Book to the Fire Caves where Winn read the incantations. They succeeded in summoning the Pah-wraith, although Winn was shocked when they chose Dukat as their Emissary. As Dukat and Benjamin Sisko began their final clash, Winn tried to destroy the Book. She was later killed by Dukat, but not before drawing Sisko's attention to the Book. Seizing his chance, Sisko threw himself at Dukat, knocking himself and his nemesis into the fires. Dukat held onto the Book, even as it was destroyed by the flames.

Winn and Dukat took the text to the Fire Caves, and were in the process of releasing the Pah-wraiths when they were stopped by the Emissary of the Prophets, Benjamin Sisko. The book was destroyed in the ensuing struggle, consumed by the fires of the Pah-wraiths. The destruction of the book permanently locked the Pah-wraiths in their prison in the Fire Caves along with Dukat. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")
