What If We was Chiara's third and final entry for Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, 11 years after she first appeared in the 1998 contest, and 4 years after her 2nd-place finish at the 2005 contest. It was the penultimate song in the first semi-final, performing after Portugal, and preceding Bosnia and Herzegovina. Placing 6th with 86 points allowed the song to qualify to the final, where it was performed 14th, following Moldova and preceding Estonia. At the close of voting, the song placed 22nd with 31 points - the only time Chiara did not place inside the top three.
