It makes its debut in "The Monster Is Coming", the 148th episode of Dragon Ball Z, which premiered on July 15, 1992. It makes its first manga appearance in "Piccolo vs. #17", the 367th chapter of the Dragon Ball manga, issued on August 4, 1992. The technique has since made appearances in several video games spun off by the series, such as the Budokai Tenkaichi series, wherein the latter it is known as the Light Grenade.
