  • What was considered "rare" varied heavily between players, and thus had no conclusive definition. For instance, some considered items that have not returned in many years, such as since or to be "rare", while others consider items available to a limited group of players, such as the Penguin Of The Week Background to be "rare" as well. Pins and anniversary hats were widely considered "rare", as, with few exceptions for the former, were never rereleased after their initial availability.

  • Spike's crush on Rarity was not planned out from the beginning. When Lauren Faust was writing Rarity's introduction scene in the pilot, she wanted the audience to understand that she's very beautiful even though she is visually very similar to the other ponies, except the style of her mane and her eyes and eyelashes. To let the audience understand that she is beautiful, Faust made Spike become smitten with her, which developed into his crush on Rarity.
  • Rarity is a measure of how 'advanced' an item is. Rarity is detemined by taking the sum of an item's components. For example: Dirt (Rarity 1) and Cave Background (Rarity: 1) can be spliced to make a Door (Rarity: 1+1=2). As an item requires more steps to splice, it will typically gain a higher rarity. Some special items like Dragon Hand don't have a rarity, so they are considered to have a rarity of 999. Few other select recipes have "defiant" rarities. Rarity directly controls: - Gem drop rate (from blocks, as well trees); roughly one gem every additional 4 rarity. - Tree growing time
