He played junior hockey in the Winnipeg area, with the East Kildonan Bisons and the St Boniface Seals. He won the Memorial Cup with the Seals in 1937-38. Stanowski started his National Hockey League career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1939. He was named to the first NHL All-Star Team in 1940-41. He won 4 Stanley Cups with the Maple Leafs in 1942, 1945, 1947, and 1948. He took a break to join the Air Force in World War II and rejoined the Leafs in 1944-45. He is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
