When she was consecrated as bishop on December 17, 2006, she had spent her entire career within the diocese for which she became bishop. She was the fourth female bishop in the Church of Norway, succeeding the first, Rosemarie Köhn. Bishop Olav Skjevesland officiated at her consecration. On December 25, 2006, she went public with the view that the Church of Norway should develop a church liturgy for the establishment of same-sex partnerships[1]. She is also the world's first female diocesan bishop to succeed another woman.
