Perowne Barracks is a former British Army barracks in Hong Kong. It closed in 1994 following the drawdown of the military establishment prior to the handover of sovereignty in 1997. Formerly stationed at the barracks was a Gurkha regiment of the Royal Engineers. The barracks was named for Major General Lancelot Perowne (1902–82), the first Colonel of the Gurkha Engineers (unit of the Royal Engineers) and later Major General of the Brigade of Gurkhas. The land is gazetted by the Hong Kong government for redevelopment. It is not clear when any clearing of the site may occur.

  • Perowne Barracks is a former British Army barracks in Hong Kong. It closed in 1994 following the drawdown of the military establishment prior to the handover of sovereignty in 1997. Formerly stationed at the barracks was a Gurkha regiment of the Royal Engineers. The barracks was named for Major General Lancelot Perowne (1902–82), the first Colonel of the Gurkha Engineers (unit of the Royal Engineers) and later Major General of the Brigade of Gurkhas. Since closure, part of the barracks has been used as a training school by the Hong Kong Immigration service, and another part is used by the Crossroads Foundation charity. The majority of the camp has not been maintained since the army left. There is still a large Brigade of Gurkhas badge on a camp building - the secondary school - that can be seen from the Tuen Mun Highway which bisects the camp. The land is gazetted by the Hong Kong government for redevelopment. It is not clear when any clearing of the site may occur. The barracks was used until 2008 as the final checkpoint for the annual Trailwalker event along the MacLehose Trail. In 2009 the Trailwalker route changed to end in Yuen Long. The slipway of that part of the barracks known as Gordon Hard divides Cafeteria Old Beach from Cafeteria New Beach in So Kwun Wat. There are still several Nissen huts in this area as of 2009.
