Their are several known marriage runes, all of which are permanent. One is the Wedded Union rune, which is placed on the back of the hand of the Shadowhunter getting married, binding the pair in matrimony. Once the marks are made, the Nephilim is/are considered married. Another is exchanged by the couple during the actual wedding ceremony in the place of rings. One is placed on the arm, and the other over the heart. Though typically permanent, the runes may dissolve and fade if the couple separates. In case of a divorce, an Iron Sister may painfully cut the Marks in two.
