The 13 Day Conflict was a short military conflict between the United States military and Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. It was sparked by the capture of Osama Bin Laden by US soldiers in the village of Meydan. The conflict lasted from November 1st, the day after Bin Laden was captured, until November 13th of 2006. With about 7200 soldiers in the area, the United States saw 140 casualties on the battlefield. It is estimated that Al Qaeda saw near 500 casualties of their strength of 2500. Following the conflict, Bin Laden was taken to Saudi Arabia and put on trial for being in connection with the 1998 United States embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, the USS Cole bombing and the failed hijackings of 2001. Bin Laden was executed in 2008 by hanging.
