USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB/CVA/CV-42) was the second of three Midway class aircraft carriers. To her crew, she was known as the "Swanky Franky," "Foo-De-Roo," or "Rosie," with the last nickname probably the most popular. Roosevelt spent most of her active deployed career operating in the Mediterranean Sea as part of the United States Sixth Fleet. The ship was decommissioned in 1977 and was scrapped shortly afterward.

- USS Franklin D. Roosevelt was laid down on 1 December 1943, two months after the lead ship, USS Midway (CV-41). Like her sister ships, USS Midway and USS Coral Sea (CV-43), Franklin D. Roosevelt was not completed in time to see service in World War II. She remained in service from being commissioned on 27 October 1945 as a CV aircraft carrier, before being refitted and renamed to USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVB-42) in 1951, which she served as until she was retired on 30 September 1977, and was later scrapped in 1978.
