(DS9 novel: Rising Son) A sketch in The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine gives the species name of the Hunters as the Drai. According to DS9 production sources, the Hunters were scripted to appear in "The Search" as members of the Dominion, but their role was cut from the final episode. Robert Hewitt Wolfe also established, unofficially in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, that "the same people who breed the Tosks as gifts to the hunters, breed the Jem'Hadar as well", explaining some of the similarities between both reptilian, genetically engineered species.
