| - The idea of Watching Money... came to the author of the fan fiction series, Jake, when he started reading the second MySims Fanon game. After believing the story could be more dark, yet interesting, Jake created a short script detailing how the Sims could have gotten to where they were in the opening of the game. With the short script, (which ultimately ended up being the prologue to the series) Jake had gotten many more ideas from his everyday life. While writing chapters 13 and 14, Jake drew much inspiration from the popular webseries Red vs. Blue, where the main character, Leonard Church, is an AI unit reincarnated from Dr. Leonard "The Director" Church who believes to be a simulation trooper stationed in Blood Gulch.

With the idea of characters not knowing of their past in mind, Jake was easily able to come up with a prologue to the AI chapters (which did not actually get published onto the Wiki, as it was too short), but got replaced with a chapter detailing the main characters' current situation, with the chapter being made up on-the-spot. Many aspects of that one chapter do not return in future chapters, the main aspect is the fact that Morcubus, the main antagonist of the series, had taken over the world, and wanted the Sims to be captured and brought to him (although the latter is briefly mentioned in a few chapters afterward). After 20 chapters, Jake decided to give a backstory on the creation of the four AI units, Delta, Omega, Sigma and Psi, by using the Nightmare Crown's creation story from MySims Agents. Extending the story to include some differences, Jake was able to create an intriguing side-plot for the story, which became the favourite part of the story. With the 30th chapter ending with a cliffhanger revolving Morcubus, the author had revealed that the story is "not even close to being done" and the extra chapter, 31, will be an introduction to "what might be a little familiar to some users".
