He was an offensive star with the junior Brandon Wheat Kings, scoring 122 points in 1981-82. The Chicago Blackhawks chose him 49th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. MvcMurchy turned pro in 1983-84 with the Hawks, but only scored 3 goals and 1 assist in 27 games. He was never able to crack the NHL lineup and was traded to the Calgary Flames in March, 1986. That August he signed with the Edmonton Oilers as a Free agent but only got into 9 games with the Oilers. After several more seasons in the minor pros, McMurchy moved to Italy in 1989. He played three seasons there and retired in 1992.
