| - Egnatius James Katona Jr., "Iggy Katona" was a NASCAR and ARCA driver from Willis, Michigan. His original passion was racing motorcycles in 1934. He was unbeatable, winning nearly every event he entered, including the Michigan Motorcycle Championship. After serving a year in the U.S. Army during World War II, Katona focused on racing open-wheel midget cars, AAA big cars and roadsters.
NASCAR
Katona competed in 13 races between 1951 and 1974, posting 3 top 10 finishes and a best finish of 7th at Dayton Ohio Speedway. He raced for himself in 1951 and 1952, Bill Caltrider also in 1952, Sam Fletcher in 1967, and Don Bierschwale in 1974.
ARCA==
Most of his success came in ARCA, winning 79 races and 6 championships in 1955, 1956, 1957, 1962, 1966, and 1967. His final win came at Daytona International Speedway in 1974, becoming the oldest driver to win an ARCA superspeedway event at age 57.
He was famous for driving circles around the competition in his own #30 Dodge/Plymouth, and for his consistency, as he finished in the Top 10 in ARCA standings for 21 consecutive seasons. He is also the all-times wins leader in the ARCA Series, with 79.
Iggy also won 68 races in other forms like midgets and roadsters.
Iggy Katona raced in 630 ARCA races, his last in 1977.
