  • The Roman Catholic Church is one of the major sects of Christianity. • The Roman Catholic Church, or Catholic Church, is the Christian Church which is led by the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, currently His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. Formally, the Roman Catholic Church defines itself as the Church governed by the Pope - considered to be the "successor of Peter", and therefore charged with leadership of all Christians - and the bishops in communion with him. As such, it teaches that it is the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus, and that it was instituted for the salvation of all people. It seeks to accomplish this through teaching, and the administration of seven sacraments. It bases its teachings on both Scripture and the traditions of the church, many of which it believes to have been passed down from the Twelve Apostles or from Jesus himsel

  • A major part of Earth society for over 2000 years, the Roman Catholic Church was suffering waning numbers through the last half of the 30th Century. Pope Benedict XX tried unsuccessfully to pull the ailing Church together and began preaching a strong doctrine of acceptance to an increasingly xenophobic congregation. In December of 3000, however, terrorists from the Keep Earth Pure movement detonated multiple plasma bombs over Earth's surface which ended up killing the Pope and destroying the Vatican. The vast majority of Catholics were also killed in the bombs' wake. In 3004, a group of Catholics on La Terre appointed a new Pope, designated John Paul XV, and he is gaining a strong following amongst remaining Catholics. The number of practioners and support for the new Pope grew in part out of the uncertainty of the Birthright War. One of the reasons being due to the unique 're-incarnation' of La Terre and her citizens called into question as to whether or not those resurrected had the souls of the original population. It remains a point of contention within religious circles. It should be noted the new Pope although based on La Terre, is a human immigrant from Earth and not one of those brought back from the dead by the Il'Ri'Kamm Hive Mind.
