When Cliegg married Shmi Skywalker, Owen and Anakin Skywalker became stepbrothers. When Padmé Amidala gave birth to Luke and Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi brought Luke to the homestead for Owen and Beru to raise. One day, while Owen was tending to the vaporators in the backyard, the blue milk stored underneath the homestead combusted, catching the entire homestead on fire. Owen ran to the front just as Luke and Obi-Wan pulled up with the speeder. Cliegg came racing out with a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and explained to Owen what happened. Luke inquired about the blue milk, and Owen told Luke about how the Lars family used to be nerf herders until they had a surplus of nerf jerky. Since then, the family sold nerf milk for profit, while it slowly changed from white to green to blue.
