Synopsis
  • Five years ago, DeSaad had been about to wreak havoc on the few survivors of Apokolips' attack on the earth, only to fall into a Boom-Tube, and come out on another earth, alone. Off the coast of Hawaii, and seeking anyone in whom he could instill fear, to feed upon that emotion, he began torturing innocents as he encountered them. Within an hour, he had made his way to a hospital in Honolulu, where he began forcing those inside to do violence on each other and themselves. Four years later, he had established a fortress for himself in the Congo, where he had finally accumulated the tools he needed to build Apokoliptian devices, which were then sold to warring factions around the world for the sake of causing more chaos. Unfortunately, his intention to build a Boom-Tube was thwarted when he learned that someone had stolen the quantum tunnelling technology from Holt Industries, despite having planted someone in the company to ensure that it would be his, and Michael Holt himself was gone too. Eventually, he rediscovered it in the possession of Karen Starr, and, realizing that it would not be powerful enough to get him back to Apokolips, he decided to destroy it out of spite with the help of Hakkou, the Irradiated Man - a creation of his. In the mean time, DeSaad had become frustrated that a particular artist had somehow escaped his call. Hoping to torture him personally, DeSaad was surprised to find that the man didn't even look up when he arrived via Boom-Tube. He was lost in his own mind. Amused, he decided to relent, just long enough to see that all the beauty this artist loved was destroyed. Then he would return. Still no closer to home, DeSaad prays for the day that Darkseid comes back to retrieve him.
