Canada has the benefit of a very long day length in summer, and the associated rapid growth of plants and of honeybee colonies. In the west, seed legumes are extensively grown, and honey yields per hive are highest in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Canada has an extensive cold region where bees cannot live, and the average hive density for the whole country is only of 0.07 hives per km 2.
