The Main Barracks of Toshi no Naishou was first built in the days when Naishou province came to the attention of the Empire. It sat right outside the Palace, and in case of emergency the soldiers could quickly be deployed in the castle proper. Most of the time the Barrack was simply used to house soldiers when they were not on duty, and it had a canteen, which was manned by the cook Ichuzo in the late 12th century.
