| - Koizumi was elected leader following the resignation of Clementina Jessica Palin. He was the party's first Asian leader. In the December 2638 election, Koizumi won 44% of the vote in his race for Praetor. He lost by nearly 10 million votes. The party also lost a Senate seat. In the 2640 elections, Koizumi and the Democrats were shocked with how well he performed. He was defeated in his bid for Praetor by a close margin of 1.36%. The party also gained six Senate seats bringing them to 49. The party also won the Lindar Valley and Terrarokka governorships in landslides of 60% to 40%. The 2640 elections were also the Democrats strongest election in history. In 2642, Koizumi won his election as Praetor. The Free Democrats returned and because of that, they split the liberal vote. This caused the Democrats to go from 49 seats to 19. In his first speech as Praetor, Koizumi announced he would not serve the full term and would hand over the leadership and Praetorship to deputy leader Matti Ilseaigner. Following his election as Praetor, Koizumi proposed a new cabinet. It is considered to be one of the most extraordinary cabinets ever. He appointed Joaquín Félix Aznar Miranda to be his Deputy Praetor. This caused a rift between Koizumi and Ilseaigner. Many had expected Koizumi to appoint Ky Burns-Hansen to a position in the Foreign Affairs department, however, that appointment never fully materialized. However, Koizumi appointed the daughter of Burns-Hansen, Laura Sonsoles Botella to be Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also appointed Botella's mother, Doris Anjelique Ezcard to become Minister of Defence. One of his most controversial appointments was his appointment of his wife, Yori, as Minister of Justice. Finally, he named Ada Clemens to the cabinet, as well as Nils Bruscz and Bart Abernathy.
