Project M is the developer for Metroid: Other M. It is a mix of members from Team Ninja and Nintendo's R&D1, as well as the D-Rockets animation studio. Combined, there are over 100 members on Project M. [1] Project M has yet to create any more games after Other M, but Yoshio Sakamoto has said he would be willing to work with Team Ninja again.

It gained popularity due to recreating most of the Melee mechanics and also adding new ones. Claiming to "fix Nintendo's mistakes", Project M is downloadable via SD card. It alters the graphics to look somewhat alike Melee as well while keeping Final Smashes. The game mod went up to Version 3.6 before the project was terminated by the Project M team on December 1st, 2015.

- Characters aside, SSF2 intentionally pays homage to Project M by including Dracula's Castle, a Castlevania-centric stage. The layout is mostly the same, the only notable difference is the music. Unlike Project M, SSF2 includes an remixed composition that actually hails from the Castlevania series. Project M's developers also appear in SSF2's credits. Later version of Project M updated and replaced Dracula's Castle with a Mario-centric stage called "Delfino Secret", however, Dracula's Castle remained the same in SSF2 despite the change. SSF2 developers have stated they have no intentions of changing Dracula's Castle.

It was made due to fans complaints about the long wait for Brawl, and when Brawl came out fans were upset about it being fairly slow paced and having different physics than Melee. Project M also is notable for bringing back two of the four cut characters Mewtwo and Roy.

- By 1941, Europe had already been fiercely embroiled in the Second World War. It was only a matter of time before America would be forced to recognize the atrocities of Nazi Germany and commit itself to the Allied cause. The United States government collaborated with all branches of the armed forces to create a special program specializing in psychological warfare. Their program became known in covert circles as Project M. In the Spring of that same year, Project M established itself in a secret laboratory annex beneath the Statue of Liberty. One of Project M's most eminent scientists, Professor Mazursky, realized that psychologically, all humans were viscerally frightened by images of ghoulish, ghastly monsters. Taking advantage of such a paradigm, he labored to create a team of super-powered soldiers whose physical visage would inspire terror in enemy forces. At first, Mazursky recruited soldiers on a strictly volunteer basis. Three army officers named Warren Griffith, Vincent Velcro and Elliot Taylor were transformed into horrifying warriors that resembled a werewolf, a vampire and the Frankenstein Monster. Joined by a fourth female member, Doctor Myrra Rhodes, these monstrosities became known as the Creature Commandos.

One of the modifiers included for the special mode is called "Turbo", which also hailed from Project M (it replaced the "Curry" modifier in Brawl); the symbol on the special mode menu depicts the "M" from Project M's logo as tribute of this. "Turbo" allows the player to cancel any successful hit and turn it into another attack, increasing the combo possibilities.
