Montesquieu (1689-1755) was a French lawyer, Author and political philosopher who lived during the Age of Enlightenment. Montesquieu wrote a seminal book, "De l'esprit des loix" in 18th Century French (On the Spirit of Laws). Montesquieu divided types of government into Monarchies, Dictatorships and Representative Democracies ruled by an elected leader. Montesquieu believed elected government is the best form of government and Liberapedia strongly agrees with that. Montesquieu also believed separation of powers is important. Montesquieu argued for separating power between a legislature, an executive and a judiciary.
