Alson seems to have been kindhearted, helping Fangal and the other sabre-toothed cats escape the Battalasks, warlike aliens that planned to force the peaceful creatures to fight. As a result of his kindness, Fangal became a personal friend, constant companion, and protector of Alson. The furious Battalasks attacked Alson. While he survived the attack with the help of the sabre-tooths, he was never able to go home again for fear that the aliens would invade the Jurassic Quadrant, and died peacefully of old age on board his ship, the Lightning Bolt. Wettus, his wife, and his five sons are directly descended from Alson and have kept his good-natured, vegetarian habits.
