After a bloody seven day battle, Matsu Kijoruko and Daidoji Wasutsubo, commanders of the opposing forces, met in the middle of the dead and dying for the final duel. Though Kijoruko proved the victor, she died moments afterwards from the wounds she received. The battlefield was now a holy site, a shrine dedicated to their memory stands where the two fell and the place was called the Valley of the Two Generals.
