| - A Federal Election took place on 13 September 2076 to determine the members of the 2076-2079 parliament of Australia. The election was won by the 36 year incumbent Andrew Burges and the Australian Nationalist Party. Held during the oil depression of the mid-to-late 2070's, it saw the 85 year old Andrew Burges remain in power after 36 years in governance, despite a drop in the popular vote to the opposition parties. The Democratic/Progressive coalition on the other hand remained stable, holding onto their seats whilst the Labor party got within one seat of the opposition, but independent support saw to the Coalition remaining the Shadow Government. Unlike all elections previous, Burges could no longer run a vigorous campaign, his health declining rapidly after his 2073 victory. Unable to stand, and having become blind in one eye, the incumbent remained in power, the new Leader of the Opposition taking every chance to attack Burges on his health. However, the government's handling of the oil depression, coupled with a number of Union-Labor corruption scandals that rocked the Queensland branch of the party, Burges saw it through to his 14th, and ultimately, final election victory, which he savoured until his death two months later.
