In most Ace Combat games, a missile will not cause any damage to enemy units unless it lands a direct hit. In Ace Combat 6, missiles that perform a very near miss will detonate and inflict damage to an enemy as a result of a proximity fuze. However, the damage inflicted this way is lower than the damage from a direct hit. Proximity fuze was later included as a feature of the Short-Range Aerial Suppression Missile, a special weapon in Ace Combat: Joint Assault and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy.
