In Martha's Thanksgiving, Martha remembers that she grew up in an alley way. She lived with her six other siblings one, two, three, four, five, and six. They lived there until a nice chicken farmer picked them all up and brought them to the animal shelter. However, Martha's mother was too old to be adopted and Martha didn't want to leave her, and so Mrs. Smith decided to bring both of them to her home. However one day Mrs. Smith's neighbour's son went out to the flooded river. Martha tried to stop him but in her efforts she fell in the river and got swept away down river where Kazuo found her.

| - In Martha's Thanksgiving, Martha remembers that she grew up in an alley way. Martha then went back to the pound to be adopted by Hellen Lorraine. Martha gained the ability to talk after Helen gave her a bowl of alphabet soup; the letters in the soup went to her brain instead of her stomach, which was an event that couldn't be repeated with another dog, but Martha has to continue eating it to retain her ability to speak. She got the ability to communicate with people previous to the adoption of Skits. "Truman and the Deep Blue Sea" reveals she had frequent carsickness when she was a puppy, and Skits Behaves reveals she used to wet the floor. As revealed in Martha's Life in Crime, before being adopted by the Lorraines she was temporarily adopted by two criminals who used her to rob a store, a hotel, and a museum and who also taught her how to fetch.
