With no hope of evacuation, the populace of the colony were saved by local militia and insurrectionist factions. The survivors created the asteroid-colony known as the Rubble far from the eyes of the Covenant onslaught. Ignatio's parents and likely the rest of his family were killed by the Covenant. He had not found any relatives on the Rubble was believed he was the only survivor.

He had not found any relatives on the Rubble was believed he was the only survivor. During Madrigal's more simpler and calmer days, Ignatio became a close friend to Maria Esquival. When Madrigal was lost, Maria introduced him to her brother, Diego who later acted as a father-figure and mentor to him when living on the Rubble. Diego also convinced him to join the Rubble Defense Force where Ignatio promised himself to make sure what happened on Madrigal wouldn't happen on the Rubble.
