- Kano es un conocido y devoto miembro del Dragón Negro, aunque se ha sugerido que ese no sea su nombre real. Es reconocido por el implante en su ojo derecho y su preferencia por el kombate armado con cuchillos, apareciendo por primera vez en Mortal Kombat como un criminal perseguido por Sonya Blade. El diseño inicial del personaje dibujado por John Tobias tenía un parche en el ojo en vez de un implante y cargaba dos katanas cruzadas en su espalda, en otro diseño Kano usaba un casco metálico de ojos rojos. Mucho tiempo después Ed Boon menciona que el implante en el ojo fue creado al cortar una parte de una máscara plástica, la que fue pintada de color plateado y posteriormente adherida a la cabeza de Richard Divizio, quien realiza la captura de movimiento del personaje.
