Learning motions and following directions are, perhaps, the best outcomes of our dryland efforts. Sure, the body gets the blood going and the heart rate elevates a bit. The pool feels a bit easier to enter when the body is warm already. But I enjoy the team togetherness, the listening, the acting based upon instructions. Ask the squad to do five right arm forward arm swings and see who is able to count, know right from left, forward from backwards and who is on Mars. Join in. The coaching connections are easier to establish on land, without the distractions of distance, splashes, goggles, caps covering ears, etc. When the listening and resulting actions are established, then we can take the efforts into the water.
