  • Avigail "Gali" Atari is a well-known Israeli actress and singer of Yemeni-Jewish descent. At the age of 15, she was introduced to an Israeli musician named David Kribrushe who gave her a featured part in one of his songs, and at 17 she recorded her first two solo songs. Her first attempt at Eurovision came in the 1978 national final with the song "Nesich hachlomot" and finished third behind the eventual Eurovision winners that year, Izhar Cohen and Alpha Beta. The following year, she teamed up with male trio Milk and Honey performing the song Hallelujah. The song convincingly won the Israeli final and went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 on home ground in Jerusalem, having come from behind on the final vote. She stayed with the group for one more year and released several more hit singles with them before leaving as a result of a contract dispute with their manager which dragged on for 14 years - a court battle which she won. She continues to perform as a solo artist.
