Prince Jaharan, also known as the Sultan, was the ruler of the small northern Indian province of Lahdal from its capital Darrem. Darrem prospered under Jaharan after the prince signed a treaty with the United Kingdom that saw foreign troops, including the British, banned from Lahdal. Jaharan followed with a decree that any transaction short of slave trading was legal and went on to see that the province was ruled by Hindu, and not British, law.
