Kamino was an aquatic world in a system of thirteen planets circling an aging star struggling in Wild Space near the Unknown Regions. Climate changes had submerged the planet's continents beneath a global ocean nearly 5,000 years after the formation of the Galactic Republic. Native species included the sentient Kaminoans, a tall, thin species with pale skin, who turned to cloning technology in order to counter the hardships of the world's environmental chaos, but were not self-sufficient. They created clones for third parties in exchange for vital raw materials.

abstract
| - Kamino was an aquatic world in a system of thirteen planets circling an aging star struggling in Wild Space near the Unknown Regions. The planet had been controlled by a democratically elected ruling council since the flood. This body, along with the rest of the government was seated in Sigirum City, though Prime Minister Lama Su favored Tipoca City instead. Kamino joined the Galactic Republic after its re-discovery in 22 BBY and contributed its previously batched clone army to their cause. Many Kaminoan cities were severely damaged in the ensuing Clone Wars, including Sigirum City. After the rise of the Empire, the world enjoyed a de facto independence as the Imperial Army favored the Centax clones instead of the slowly produced Kaminoan clones, though an Imperial garrison was stationed on the planet. During this period, the Kaminoan Federation was formed. This state sought to capture planets in the immediate vicinity of the Kamino system to end the world's dependance on foreign resources. To this end, a secret clone army's production was started in 18 BBY to ensure that no third parties would be involved. After the Empire withdrew its forces from Kamino in 9 BBY, the Federation could began its operations in earnest. A habitable moon orbiting a gas giant in the system was colonized, leading to constant clashes between the natives and the Kaminoans' army. Other notable conquests included the establishment of mines on the barren planet Zaddja and scouting of the nearby sectors of the Unknown Regions.
