It was the starting point of the Xoret Spine and a major stop along the AG Intergalactic Route and was home to many mining outposts due to the mineral wealth of the planet. The rather dry climate attracted species from arid worlds like the Geonosians, who operated Confederate mines, research facilities and factories located throughout the mountains. The planet was mainly covered with huge plains composed of various silicates. Among the few remarkable features were the carborundum mountain ranges and a subterranean network of caves formed by occasional lava flows. Humidity was provided by three seas which had elevated levels of carbonic acid. Gakt V, as well as the rest of the habitable planets of the Gakt system, were discovered in 6 ABY by a CNAP reconnaissance force charting the AG Intergalactic Route. The temporary colony founded there was expanded and upgraded later and prospectors arrived to check the promising planet for mineral deposits. Their efforts were not fruitless; vast carborundum, iridium and caesium resources were found, but the rather hostile nature of the planetary climate hindered effective colonization. To deal with this, the Confederate authorities decided to enlist colonists from desert or other arid planets, like Geonosians and Mustafarians.
