abstract
| - On Tuesday 25 November 2008 Rovers made the long journey north to Hartlepool United for a League One match. It was the 18th league game of the season, and came off the back of four games without a win in November, after going the whole of October unbeaten. There were a couple of changes in the lineup from the previous match, a 2–2 draw with Swindon Town. Byron Anthony returned to the defence in place of Craig Hinton, while the suspended Chris Lines was replaced by Joe Jacobson, who was returning from injury and made a rare appearance in midfield. Hinton replaced Jacobson on the bench, while Richard Langley was named in a Rovers matchday squad for the first time, replacing Ben Hunt. The match ended in a 1–1 draw, with Hartlepool taking the lead early on through Michael Nelson, and Rovers equalizing midway through the first half thanks to Jeff Hughes's third goal for the club. For the first time in almost two years, Rovers did not use any substitutes in this game. The last time that no substitutes were used was in an FA Cup match against AFC Bournemouth on 2 December 2006, that game also finished in a 1–1 draw. It was the first time no subs were used in a league game since 22 April 2006, when Rovers beat Boston United 3–1 at the Memorial Stadium.
