X-Men was Marvel Comics' second attempt at an animated X-Men TV series after the pilot X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men was not picked up.

With seventy-six episodes and five seasons, the series is the longest running animated series based on Marvel Comics, followed by its sister series Spider-Man. It is the first of four series based on the X-Men franchise, followed by X-Men: Evolution, Wolverine and the X-Men, and Marvel Anime: X-Men.
