| - The magic flute that appeared in the Smurfs cartoon show episode "Sleepwalking Smurfs " was a musical instrument owned by Madame Trilbee, a sorceress who outrightly despises Gargamel and refuses to have anything to do with him until he presented her with a fake cut-glass ruby. According to Trilbee, the flute when played causes those who are sleeping to rise to its tune and walk to wherever the tune was coming from. The first night that Gargamel used it on the Smurfs, it caused Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Handy, Smurfette, and some others to rise and sleepwalk around the village. However, when the music stopped, the Smurfs woke up and saw that things were a mess. Gargamel thought that the flute would lead him straight to the village after he stopped playing when he heard the explosion from Papa Smurf's laboratory, but as he found himself going right back to where he started, he thought that Madame Trilbee had swindled him. However, she forcefully assured Gargamel that such was not the case and that he needed more practice. After Gargamel had captured a few Smurfs that had gone off into the forest, he again played the flute after nightfall. However, that night Papa Smurf was awake to watch what would happen, and sure enough he discovered that it was the music of the flute that was causing his little Smurfs to sleepwalk. Grabbing Harmony's horn, Papa Smurf played a musical blast that awakened the other Smurfs and alerted them to the possibility that it may be Gargamel behind the music. He took a few Smurfs into the forest and found Gargamel resting near a tree, dozing off when he got tired of playing the flute. However, as Gargamel and Azrael slept, Madame Trilbee retrieved her flute after realizing that the ruby he gave her was fake and played a tune that caused the wizard and his cat to sleepwalk, bumping into trees as they did. After the Smurfs had rescued those whom Gargamel had captured, Papa Smurf commented that seeing Gargamel getting his just desserts was music to his ears.
