Three main versions of the tank are produced, each being designated either heavy, medium, or light. The 1-H is the main version and the most widely produced of the three. It is armed with a heavy laser cannon and a medium blaster cannon, similar to the Firehawke, and has two additional cannons flanking the vehicle. In addition to armored combat, Imperial-class tanks can be fitted with a scoop and used to clear obstacles.

Out of the initial production run of 1,500 tanks, 1,420 were assigned to the first Death Star, while the rest were given to the Hell's Hammers. After the station's destruction, production of the tank has continued at a steady, yet reduced pace.
